Regular Season Round 26: Unicaja - Panathinaikos 79-90

Very expected game when 11th ranked Spanish Unicaja Malaga (10-16) was defeated at home by seventh ranked Greek Panathinaikos (15-11) 90-79. Unicaja Malaga was ahead by 2 points after three quarters before a 32-19 charge of Panathinaikos, which allowed them to win the game. They dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Unicaja Malaga's 30. Panathinaikos players were unselfish on offense dishing 22 assists. American-Greek point guard Nick Calathes (198-89, college: Florida) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 12 points, 8 rebounds and 11 assists. American-Guinea-Bissau KC Rivers (196-87, college: Clemson) contributed with 24 points and 5 steals for the winners. Five Panathinaikos players scored in double figures. Serbian point guard Nemanja Nedovic (191-91, agency: BeoBasket) replied with 19 points and 7 assists (was perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line !!!) and American forward James Augustine (208-84, college: Illinois) added 11 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists in the effort for Unicaja Malaga. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Defending Greek champion moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Zalgiris and Khimki. Unicaja Malaga lost third consecutive game. They keep the eleventh position with 16 games lost. Panathinaikos' next round opponent will be Crvena Zvezda (#10) in Beograd where they are favorite. Unicaja Malaga will play at home against FC Barcelona and hope to win that game.
