There was no surprise when 14th ranked FC Barcelona (9-18) was defeated on the road by eleventh ranked Unicaja Malaga (11-16) 95-91 on Wednesday. The hosts trailed by 6 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 3-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 95-91. Unicaja Malaga looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. It was a great evening for forward Daniel Diez (202-93) who led his team to a victory scoring 21 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Serbian point guard Nemanja Nedovic (191-91, agency: BeoBasket) helped adding 13 points and 4 assists. Unicaja Malaga's coach used an eleven-player rotation in such tough game. The best for the losing side was Croatian center Ante Tomic (217-87, agency: XL Basketball Agency) with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 11 rebounds (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field) and French point guard Thomas Heurtel (189-89, agency: BeoBasket) produced a double-double by scoring 11 points and 10 assists. Four Unicaja Malaga and five FC Barcelona players scored in double figures. Unicaja Malaga moved-up to tenth place, which they share with Crvena Zvezda. Loser FC Barcelona keeps the fourteenth position with 18 games lost. They share it with EA7 Armani. Unicaja Malaga will meet Brose Baskets (#13) in the next round. FC Barcelona will play against Baskonia and hope to secure a win.
