Regular Season Round 5: FC Barcelona - Maccabi T-A 74-58

Not a big story in a game when 12th ranked Israeli Maccabi T-A (1-4) was defeated on the road by eighth ranked Spanish FC Barcelona (3-2) 74-58 on Thursday. The game was mostly controlled by FC Barcelona. Maccabi T-A was better in second period 21-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Maccabi T-A to just 7 points in third quarter. They outrebounded Maccabi T-A 39-25 including 28 on the defensive glass. Forward Victor Claver (207-88) stepped up and scored 14 points and 7 rebounds for the winners and Croatian center Ante Tomic (217-87) chipped in 12 points and 8 rebounds. American power forward Johnny OBryant-III (205-93, college: LSU) responded with 10 points and 6 rebounds and American-Israeli center Alex Tyus (203-88, college: Florida) scored 9 points and 8 rebounds. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. The victory was the third consecutive win for FC Barcelona. They moved-up to fifth place, which they share with 3 other teams. Defending Israeli champion Maccabi T-A keeps the twelfth position with four games lost. FC Barcelona will face Khimki (#12) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Maccabi T-A will play against the league's leader Real Madrid and hope to win that game.
