Regular Season Round 8: CSKA - Zalgiris 99-97

Ninth-ranked Lithuanian Zalgiris (3-5) gave a tough game to top-ranked Russian CSKA (8-0) in Moscow on Wednesday. CSKA managed to secure only two-point victory 99-97. However their fans expected much easier game. CSKA made 25-of-31 free shots (80.6 percent) during the game. 30 personal fouls committed by Zalgiris helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Worth to mention a great performance of Spanish guard Sergio Rodriguez (191-86) who helped to win the game recording 24 points and 6 assists and American Will Clyburn (201-90, college: Iowa St.) who added 15 points and 13 rebounds during the contest. Center Antanas Kavaliauskas (208-84, college: Texas A&M, agency: Interperformances) responded with 19 points and 8 rebounds and American point guard Nate Wolters (193-91, college: S.Dakota St., agency: Pensack Sports) scored 14 points and 9 assists. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. CSKA have an impressive eight-game winning streak. Defending Russian champion keeps a position of league leader, which they share with Real Madrid. Defending Lithuanian champion Zalgiris keep the ninth place with five games lost. They share the position with B.Muenchen. CSKA is looking forward to face Buducnost (#14) in Podgorica in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Zalgiris will play at home against Khimki (#11) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
