Important game to mention about took place in Istanbul. Third ranked Spanish Real Madrid (8-2) saved a 2-point victory on the road edging 4th placed Turkish Anadolu Efes (8-2) 84-82 in the game for the third place. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Anadolu Efes. Anadolu Efes were ahead by 14 points after three quarters before a 24-8 charge of Real Madrid, which allowed them to win the game. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 25 assists. It was an exceptional evening for Mexican center Gustavo Ayon (207-85, college: San Jose St.) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 11 rebounds (on 10-of-11 shooting from the field). American Trey Thompkins (208-90, college: Georgia) accounted for 10 points and 5 assists for the winning side. French Adrien Moerman (202-88) came up with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 10 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) and Serbian point guard Vasilije Micic (196-94, agency: BeoBasket) added 15 points and 8 assists respectively for Anadolu Efes in the defeat. Four Anadolu Efes players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Defending Spanish champion maintains third place with 8-2 record behind leader CSKA, which they share with defeated Anadolu Efes. Real Madrid will play against FC Barcelona (#6) at home in the next round. Anadolu Efes will play against Olympiacos in Pireus and hope to get back on the winning track.
