There was an upset in Las Palmas where higher ranked Lithuanian Zalgiris (7-8) were defeated by twelfth ranked Spanish Gran Canaria (6-9) 73-66 on Friday. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Zalgiris won third quarter 24-21. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Gran Canaria made 19-of-21 free shots (90.5 percent) during the game. The best player for the winners was swingman Xavier Rabaseda (196-89) who scored 15 points and 8 rebounds. Point guard Albert Oliver (187-78) chipped in 10 points and 5 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was American center Brandon Davies (208-91, college: BYU, agency: BeoBasket) who recorded 11 points and 9 rebounds and the other American import guard Derrick Walton-Jr (185-95, college: Michigan) added 11 points and 5 assists respectively. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. The victory was the third consecutive win for Gran Canaria. They maintain twelfth place with 6-9 record. Defending Lithuanian champion Zalgiris keep the eighth position with eight games lost.
