Valencia overcame Unics in the series opener. Unics Kazan was ahead by 4 points after three quarters before a 25-16 charge of Valencia Basket, which allowed them to win the game. Unics Kazan was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. American center Mike Tobey (212-94, college: Virginia) stepped up and scored 14 points and 6 rebounds for the winners and swingman Fernando San-Emeterio (199-84) chipped in 14 points. At the losing side American guard Errick McCollum (185-88, college: Goshen) responded with 16 points and Senegalese forward Maurice Ndour (206-92, college: Ohio) scored 8 points and 9 rebounds.
