Regular Season Round 27: Anadolu Efes - CSKA 78-80

Important game to mention about took place in Istanbul. Third ranked Russian CSKA (20-7) saved a 2-point victory on the road edging 4th placed Turkish Anadolu Efes (18-9) 80-78 in the game for the third place. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Anadolu Efes. It looked good early as Anadolu Efes took a 5-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then CSKA had a 25-15 second period charge getting the lead and Anadolu Efes were not able to take back game control losing it eventually 78-80. CSKA dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Anadolu Efes' 36. They brought some defensive toughness making 7 blocks. It was a good game for American guard Cory Higgins (196-89, college: Colorado) who led his team to a victory with 19 points and 5 assists. His fellow American import center Kyle Hines (198-86, agency: BeoBasket) contributed with 15 points (perfect from the field making all seven shots !!!) for the winners. American-Armenian center Bryant Dunston (203-86) answered with 19 points and 9 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) and Croatian swingman Krunoslav Simon (197-85) added 13 points and 7 rebounds in the effort for Anadolu Efes. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Defending Russian champion maintains third place with 20-7 record having just three points less than leader Fenerbahce. Anadolu Efes at the other side keep the fourth position with nine games lost. CSKA will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Anadolu Efes will play on the road against Buducnost (#15) in Podgorica and hope to get back on the winning track.
