Regular Season Round 30: Real Madrid - Zalgiris 86-93

Very important is a home loss of third ranked Spanish Real Madrid (22-8) against eighth ranked Lithuanian Zalgiris (15-15) on Thursday night. Host Real Madrid was defeated by Zalgiris in a tough game in Madrid 86-93. It looked good early as Real Madrid took a 2-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Zalgiris had a 21-10 second period charge getting the lead and Real Madrid was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 86-93. Zalgiris made 22-of-26 charity shots (84.6 percent) during the game. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 22 assists. Real Madrid was plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a good game for American center Brandon Davies (208-91, college: BYU, agency: BeoBasket) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 27 points and 10 rebounds (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line). French guard Leo Westermann (198-92, agency: BeoBasket) contributed with 9 points for the winners. Cape Verdean-Spanish center Edy Tavares (220-92) replied with 22 points and 7 rebounds (perfect from the field making all ten shots !!!) and American-Slovenian Anthony Randolph (211-89, college: LSU) added 17 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Real Madrid. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Zalgiris have an impressive six-game winning streak. Defending Lithuanian champion moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Olympiacos and Baskonia. Defending Spanish champion Real Madrid keeps the third position with eight games lost.
