Regular Season Round 3: Zalgiris - Real Madrid 86-73

The biggest surprise of round 3 in Euroleague took place in Kaunas where host Lithuanian Zalgiris (1-2) beat Spanish Real Madrid (2-1) 86-73 on Thursday evening. Real Madrid was trailing by 4 points at halftime but managed to get 3-point lead after three quarters before a 29-13 charge of Zalgiris, which allowed them to win the game. Zalgiris outrebounded Real Madrid 33-21 including 22 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. The best player for the winners was American power forward Zach LeDay (201-94, college: Virginia Tech, agency: Wasserman) who scored 26 points and 9 rebounds. Marius Grigonis (198-94) chipped in 13 points and 5 assists. Four Zalgiris players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was American-Slovenian Anthony Randolph (211-89, college: LSU) who recorded 15 points and guard Sergio Llull (190-87) added 9 points and 4 assists respectively. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Real Madrid will play next round against Anadolu Efes trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Zalgiris will try to continue on its current victory against ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket at home.
