Regular Season Round 5: CSKA - Olympiacos 79-84

Date: October 30, 2019
The most surprising game was the first loss of Russian CSKA (4-1) in Moscow on Wednesday night. Hosts were defeated by fifteenth ranked Greek Olympiacos (2-3) 84-79. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of CSKA. The guests trailed by 6 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 4-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 84-79. 24 personal fouls committed by CSKA helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. American swingman Brandon Paul (193-91, college: Illinois, agency: Pensack Sports) stepped up and scored 20 points and 6 rebounds for the winners and his fellow American import guard Kevin Punter (191-93, college: Tennessee) chipped in 16 points. Point guard Mike James (185-90, college: Lamar) responded with 22 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists and center Kyle Hines (198-86, agency: BeoBasket) scored 19 points. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Olympiacos moved-up to ninth place, which they share with 5 other teams. Defending Russian champion CSKA dropped to the second position with one game lost. They share it with 3 other teams. Olympiacos is looking forward to face higher ranked Maccabi T-A (#7) in Tel-Aviv in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. CSKA will play on the road against Zenit (#10) in Sankt Petersburg and is hoping to win this game.
