Regular Season Round 12: CSKA - Zalgiris 85-82
Date: December 5, 2019
There was no surprise in Moscow where 17th ranked Lithuanian Zalgiris (3-9) were edged by fifth ranked Russian CSKA (8-4) 85-82 on Thursday. However just three-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Strangely Zalgiris outrebounded CSKA 43-27 including 30 on the defensive glass. The best player for the winners was point guard Mike James (185-90, college: Lamar) who scored 19 points. Latvian point guard Janis Strelnieks (191-89) chipped in 18 points and 4 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was guard Thomas Walkup (193-92, college: SF Austin) who recorded 19 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists and Australian center Jock Landale (211-95, college: St.Mary's, CA) added 12 points and 11 rebounds respectively. Five CSKA and four Zalgiris players scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. Defending Russian champion moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Panathinaikos and Maccabi T-A. Zalgiris lost sixth consecutive game. Defending Lithuanian champion keep the seventeenth position with nine games lost. CSKA will face Maccabi T-A (#6) in Tel-Aviv in the next round. Zalgiris will play at home against Valencia Basket (#14) and hope to win that game.
