Regular Season Round 10: UMMC - Venezia 97-44

Russian leader UMMC Ekaterinburg delivered the ninth victory. This time they crushed 6th ranked Italian Venezia (3-7) 97-44. The game without a history. UMMC Ekaterinburg led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Venezia to just 7 points in first quarter. UMMC Ekaterinburg dominated down low during the game scoring 76 of its points in the paint compared to Venezia's 28. UMMC Ekaterinburg forced 19 Venezia turnovers and outrebounded them 47-30 including a 32-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. UMMC Ekaterinburg players were unselfish on offense dishing 28 assists comparing to just 6 passes made by Venezia's players. Worth to mention a great performance of American center Brittney Griner (203-90, college: Baylor, agency: Wasserman) who helped to win the game recording 22 points and 7 rebounds. Bahamas-Bosnian center Jonquel Jones (198-94, college: GWU) contributed with a double-double by scoring 11 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. Forward Valeria De-Pretto (185-91, agency: LBM Management) replied with 11 points and point guard Chiara Pastore (175-86) added 12 points in the effort for Venezia. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. UMMC Ekaterinburg (9-1) have an impressive five-game winning streak. Defending Russian champion maintains first position in Group A, which they share with USK Praha. Venezia at the other side dropped to the fifth place with seven games lost. They share the position with Castors Braine. UMMC Ekaterinburg will play against league's second-placed USK Praha at home in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Venezia will play against Nadezhda Orenburg and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
