There was no surprise in Pireus where 17th ranked German Bayern Muenchen (6-14) was defeated by thirteenth ranked Greek Olympiacos (8-12) 89-72. It was a very close game until the last quarter, when Olympiacos's pressure prevailed and they won that period 35-19 extending their advantage to 17 points. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. Cypriot-Bulgarian Aleksandar Vezenkov (206-95) orchestrated the victory by scoring 20 points and 5 rebounds. American-Montenegrin point guard Taylor Rochestie (186-85, college: WSU) contributed with 2 points and 12 assists for the winners. Four Olympiacos players scored in double figures. American center Greg Monroe (211-90, college: Georgetown) replied with a double-double by scoring 11 points and 12 rebounds and Serbian Vladimir Lucic (203-89, agency: BeoBasket) added 15 points and 5 assists in the effort for Bayern Muenchen. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Olympiacos moved-up to eleventh place, which they share with Fenerbahce and ASVEL. Bayern Muenchen lost sixth consecutive game. Defending German champion dropped to the sixteenth position with 14 games lost. Olympiacos' next round opponent will be bottom-ranked Zenit (#18) in Sankt Petersburg and are hoping to win another game. Bayern Muenchen will play at home against Maccabi T-A and will have a slim chance for a victory.
