Regular Season Round 21: Zalgiris - ALBA 104-80

There was a minor upset in Kaunas where 15th ranked German ALBA Berlin (7-14) was rolled over by eighteenth ranked Lithuanian Zalgiris (7-14) 104-80 on Friday. The game was mostly controlled by Zalgiris. ALBA Berlin was better in fourth quarter 28-20. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded ALBA Berlin 42-28 including 17 on the offensive glass. Zalgiris shot the lights out from three sinking 14 long-distance shots on high 51.9 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists. The best player for the winners was Edgaras Ulanovas (197-92) who scored 14 points and 4 assists. American Nigel Hayes (203-94, college: Wisconsin) chipped in 12 points and 7 rebounds. Four Zalgiris players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was Cameroonian center Landry Nnoko (208-94, college: Clemson) who recorded 15 points and 7 rebounds and American point guard Peyton Siva (182-90, college: Louisville) added 12 points and 4 assists respectively. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Defending Lithuanian champion moved-up to fifteenth place, which they share with 3 other teams including defeated ALBA Berlin. Zalgiris will face higher ranked ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket (#12) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
