Regular Season Round 23: CSKA - Anadolu Efes 80-82

The most exciting game of round 23 in the Euroleague took place in Moscow. This derby game ended with only two-point home defeat of 3rd placed Russian CSKA (16-7) to first ranked Turkish Anadolu Efes (20-3) 82-80 on Tuesday evening. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of CSKA. The guests started the game with a very strong first quarter 25-16. But CSKA won second period 21-16. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Anadolu Efes won last quarter 24-23. It was a great evening for American point guard Shane Larkin (180-92, college: Miami, FL) who led his team to a victory scoring 23 points and 4 assists. Serbian guard Vasilije Micic (196-94, agency: BeoBasket) helped adding 19 points and 5 assists. Four Anadolu Efes players scored in double figures. Point guard Mike James (185-90, college: Lamar) responded with 20 points and German center Johannes Voigtmann (211-92) scored 15 points and 5 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Anadolu Efes have an impressive series of eight victories in a row. Defending Turkish champion maintains first place with 20-3 record. Defending Russian champion CSKA dropped to the fourth position with seven games lost. Anadolu Efes are looking forward to face Zalgiris (#11) in Kaunas in the next round and are hoping to win another game. CSKA will play on the road against Olympiacos (#14) in Pireus and is hoping to prove to their supporters that this time they can win.
