Very expected game when 16th ranked German ALBA Berlin (9-18) was defeated at home by third ranked Spanish FC Barcelona (21-6) 84-80 on Wednesday. The guests trailed by 8 points at the halftime before their 46-34 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. FC Barcelona made 19-of-24 free shots (79.2 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. The best player for the winners was American Cory Higgins (195-89, college: Colorado, agency: Network Sports International) who scored 13 points and 7 assists. Montenegrin-Spanish Nikola Mirotic (208-91) chipped in 14 points and 5 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was American Luke Sikma (203-89, college: Portland) who recorded a double-double by scoring 10 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists and Icelandic guard Martin Hermannsson (190-94, college: LIU Brooklyn) added 17 points respectively. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. The victory was the eighth consecutive win for FC Barcelona. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Real Madrid. ALBA Berlin at the other side keeps the sixteenth position with 18 games lost. FC Barcelona will face Bayern Muenchen (#17) at home in the next round which should be an easy win for them. ALBA Berlin will play against Baskonia in Vitoria and hope to win that game.
