Very expected game when 11th ranked Greek Panathinaikos (1-2) were defeated on the road by fourth ranked Spanish FC Barcelona (3-1) 97-89 on Thursday. FC Barcelona made 20-of-24 free shots (83.3 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Panathinaikos were plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. Worth to mention a great performance of American Cory Higgins (195-89, college: Colorado, agency: Network Sports International) who helped to win the game recording 24 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists (made all of his eight free throws) and the other American import center Brandon Davies (208-91, college: BYU, agency: BeoBasket) who added 20 points and 5 rebounds (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field) during the contest. At the losing side forward Konstantinos Mitoglou (210-96, college: Wake Forest, agency: Wasserman) responded with a double-double by scoring 16 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists and American guard Marcus Foster (191-95, college: Creighton) scored 24 points. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. FC Barcelona moved-up to second place, which they share with 5 other teams. Defending Greek champion Panathinaikos keep the eleventh position with two games lost. FC Barcelona will face Real Madrid (#15) at home in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Panathinaikos will play against Fenerbahce (#10) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
