Regular Season Round 4: Zalgiris - Anadolu Efes 89-73

Euroleague top team - Lithuanian Zalgiris (4-0) had no problems winning another game on Thursday. This time they beat twelfth ranked Turkish Anadolu Efes (1-3) in Kaunas 89-73. The game was mostly controlled by Zalgiris. Anadolu Efes managed to win second period 19-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Zalgiris shot 63.8 percent from the field. It was a great shooting night for Zalgiris especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 52.6 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. American forward Nigel Hayes (203-94, college: Wisconsin) fired 17 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. Guard Lukas Lekavicius (180-94) chipped in 12 points and 5 assists. Four Zalgiris players scored in double figures. Armenian-American center Bryant Dunston (203-86) produced 20 points and 4 assists (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field) and Croatian guard Krunoslav Simon (197-85) added 16 points and 6 assists respectively for lost side. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Zalgiris have a solid four-game winning streak. Defending Lithuanian champion maintains first position with 4-0 record. Defending Turkish champion Anadolu Efes dropped to the thirteenth place with three games lost. They share the position with 3 other teams. Zalgiris will meet at home Valencia Basket (#6) in the next round where they are favorite. Anadolu Efes will play against ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket (#17) and hope to win that game.
