Important game to mention about took place in Pireus. Fifth ranked Greek Olympiacos (3-1) saved a 3-point victory at home edging 12th ranked Israeli Maccabi T-A (1-3) 85-82 on Friday evening. Host team only slightly avoided a big embarassment. The hosts trailed by 7 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 4-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 85-82. Olympiacos looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of American center Hassan Martin (201-95, college: URI) who helped to win the game recording 16 points and 8 rebounds (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field) and Cypriot-Bulgarian forward Aleksandar Vezenkov (206-6) who added 14 points and 6 rebounds during the contest. At the losing side Liberian-American center Othello Hunter (203-86, college: Ohio St., agency: David Lee Services) responded with 15 points and 7 rebounds (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field) and American point guard Chris Jones (188-93, college: Angelo St.) scored 12 points and 6 assists. Four Maccabi T-A players scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. Olympiacos have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place, which they share with 5 other teams. Maccabi T-A lost third consecutive game. Defending Israeli champion dropped to the thirteenth position with three games lost. Olympiacos will face Bayern Muenchen (#5) on the road in the next round. Maccabi T-A will play against Khimki (#18) and hope to win that game.
