Regular Season Round 5: Panathinaikos - Fenerbahce 82-68

There was a minor upset in Athens where 10th ranked Turkish Fenerbahce (2-3) was defeated by twelfth ranked Greek Panathinaikos (2-2) 82-68 on Thursday. The game was mostly controlled by Panathinaikos. Fenerbahce was better in second period 17-15. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Fenerbahce 35-23 including 26 on the defensive glass. The best player for the winners was Serbian guard Nemanja Nedovic (192-91, agency: BeoBasket) who scored 28 points. American point guard Keifer Sykes (183-93, college: Green Bay, agency: Pensack Sports) chipped in 11 points and 5 assists. American guard Lorenzo Brown (196-90, college: NC State) produced 17 points and 6 assists and Jordanian center Ahmad Al-Dwairi (209-93) added 15 points (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) respectively for the guests. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Defending Greek champion moved-up to ninth place, which they share with Crvena Zvezda. Fenerbahce lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the eleventh position with three games lost. Panathinaikos will face higher ranked Zenit (#7) in Sankt Petersburg in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Fenerbahce will play on the road against Maccabi T-A (#13) in Tel-Aviv and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
