Regular Season Round 7: Zalgiris - Real Madrid 90-93

Important game to mention about took place in Kaunas. Fourteenth ranked Spanish Real Madrid (3-4) saved a 3-point victory on the road edging much higher ranked Lithuanian Zalgiris (5-2) 93-90 on Friday evening. Zalgiris were ahead by 6 points after three quarters before a 26-17 charge of Real Madrid, which allowed them to win the game. They made 17-of-20 charity shots (85.0 percent) during the game. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists. Zalgiris were plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. It was an exceptional evening for Cape Verdean-Spanish center Walter Tavares (220-92) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 12 rebounds (perfect from the field making all nine shots !!!). Argentinian guard Facundo Campazzo (181-91) accounted for 19 points and 10 assists for the winning side. American guard Thomas Walkup (193-92, college: SF Austin) came up with 18 points, 7 rebounds and 9 assists and guard Marius Grigonis (198-94) added 17 points respectively for Zalgiris in the defeat. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Real Madrid moved-up to tenth place. Defending Lithuanian champion Zalgiris keep the second position with two games lost. They share it with Bayern. Real Madrid will play against Crvena Zvezda (#14) in Beograd in the next round. Zalgiris will play on the road against Maccabi T-A (#15) in Tel-Aviv and hope to get back on the winning track.
