Regular Season Round 8: ASVEL - Crvena Zvezda 68-89

Not a big story in a game when 16th ranked French ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket (1-5) was outplayed at home by eleventh ranked Serbian Crvena Zvezda (3-5) 89-68. It looked good early as ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket took a 4-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Crvena Zvezda had a 27-17 second period charge getting the lead and ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 68-89. Crvena Zvezda made 18-of-20 charity shots (90.0 percent) during the game. It was a great shooting night for Crvena Zvezda especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 57.9 percentage. The winners were led by American Jordan Loyd (193-93, college: Indianapolis) who scored that evening 29 points and 5 steals and the other American import guard Corey Walden (188-92, college: EKU) supported him with 20 points, 5 assists and 4 steals. Even 14 points by American guard Allerik Freeman (190-94, college: NC State, agency: Slash Sports) did not help to save the game for ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket. Center Moustapha Fall (216-92) added 7 points and 7 rebounds for the hosts. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Despite that victory Crvena Zvezda went down to twelfth position due to points difference, which they share with Maccabi T-A. ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket at the other side keeps the sixteenth place with five games lost. Crvena Zvezda's next round opponent will be higher ranked Armani Milano (#11) on the road and it may be quite challenging game. ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket will play against ALBA Berlin (#16) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
