Regular Season Round 8: Olympiacos - ALBA 75-71

There was no surprise in Pireus where 17th ranked German ALBA Berlin (1-5) was defeated by seventh ranked Greek Olympiacos (5-3) 75-71. However just four-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. ALBA Berlin was ahead by 11 points at the halftime before a 27-9 third quarter run of Olympiacos. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. The winners were led by American guard Shaquielle McKissic (196-90, college: ASU) who scored that evening 14 points and Guyanese-French forward Livio Jean-Charles (205-93, agency: BeoBasket) supported him with 13 points and 5 rebounds. Even 13 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists by forward Niels Giffey (200-91, college: UConn, agency: BeoBasket) did not help to save the game for ALBA Berlin. Guard Maodo Lo (191-92, college: Columbia) added 10 points and 4 assists for the guests. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Olympiacos moved-up to third place, which they share with CSKA and Zalgiris. Defending German champion ALBA Berlin dropped to the sixteenth position with five games lost. Olympiacos' next round opponent will be league's leader FC Barcelona on the road and it will be for sure the game of the week. ALBA Berlin will play against ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket (#17) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
