Regular Season Round 12: Valencia - ALBA 92-100

The most important game in the last round took place in Valencia between third ranked Spanish Valencia Basket (7-4) and seventeenth ranked German ALBA Berlin (4-7) on Thursday night. Valencia Basket was defeated by ALBA Berlin in a tough game at home 92-100. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Valencia Basket. Valencia Basket trailed by 18 points after 3 quarters before a 27-17 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 92-100 at the end of the game. They outrebounded Valencia Basket 34-21 including 22 on the defensive glass. ALBA Berlin shot the lights out from three sinking 17 long-distance shots on high 53.1 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists. It was a good game for American forward Luke Sikma (202-89, college: Portland) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 12 rebounds. Uruguayan-Italian guard Jayson Granger (189-89) contributed with 17 points and 5 assists for the winners. Granger is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four ALBA Berlin players scored in double figures. Icelandic guard Martin Hermannsson (190-94, college: LIU Brooklyn) replied with 13 points and 6 assists and Slovenian guard Klemen Prepelic (191-92) added 13 points in the effort for Valencia Basket. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Defending German champion moved-up to thirteenth place, which they share with Panathinaikos. Valencia Basket at the other side dropped to the fourth position with four games lost. ALBA Berlin is looking forward to face higher ranked Fenerbahce (#12) in Istanbul in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Valencia Basket will play at home against Zenit (#6) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
