Regular Season Round 16: Valencia - Khimki 88-82

Everything went according to plan when sixth ranked Spanish Valencia Basket (10-6) beat at home bottom-ranked Russian Khimki (2-14) 88-82 on Wednesday. However just six-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Khimki won third quarter 23-14. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Valencia Basket dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Khimki's 28 and made 18-of-18 free shots (100 percent !!!) during the game. Valencia Basket looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of Icelandic guard Martin Hermannsson (190-94, college: LIU Brooklyn) who helped to win the game recording 16 points and 9 assists and American forward Derrick Williams (203-91, college: Arizona) who added 15 points during the contest. Four Valencia Basket players scored in double figures. At the losing side American guard Errick McCollum (188-88, college: Goshen) responded with 16 points and his fellow American import center Devin Booker (205-91, college: Clemson) scored 11 points. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Valencia Basket moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Bayern. Khimki lost eighth consecutive game. Defending Russian champion stay at the bottom position with 14 games lost. Valencia Basket will face Baskonia (#10) in Vitoria in the next round where they are favorite. Khimki will play at home against Olympiacos (#11) and hope to win that game.
