Regular Season Round 16: Zalgiris - Bayern 74-73

The most exciting game of round 16 in the Euroleague took place in Kaunas. This derby game ended with only one-point defeat on the road of higher ranked German Bayern Muenchen (10-6) to eighth ranked Lithuanian Zalgiris (9-7) 74-73 on Wednesday evening. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 22-16. But Bayern Muenchen won second period 19-18. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Zalgiris made 16-of-19 free shots (84.2 percent) during the game. Worth to mention a great performance of guard Marius Grigonis (198-94) who helped to win the game recording 22 points and American forward Augustine Rubit (203-89, college: USA, agency: Wasserman) who added 9 points and 5 rebounds during the contest. At the losing side American center Jalen Reynolds (207-92, college: Xavier) responded with 17 points and 7 rebounds and his fellow American import swingman Nick Weiler-Babb (196-95, college: Iowa St., agency: Wasserman) scored 16 points and 5 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Zalgiris have a solid four-game winning streak. Defending Lithuanian champion maintains eighth position with 9-7 record. Bayern Muenchen at the other side keeps the fourth place with six games lost. They share the position with Valencia. Zalgiris are looking forward to face ALBA Berlin (#13) on the road in the next round where they are favorite. Bayern Muenchen will play against the league's second-placed FC Barcelona (#2) having rather not much hope for a victory.
