Regular Season Round 18: Barca - Valencia 89-72

One of the most interesting games of round 18 was a derby match between two teams from Spain. Fifth ranked FC Barcelona won against visiting Valencia Basket (10-8) 89-72. The game was mostly controlled by FC Barcelona. Valencia Basket was better in second period 21-20. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. It was a great shooting night for FC Barcelona especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 57.9 percentage. Greek-American point guard Nick Calathes (197-89, college: Florida) scored 8 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists to lead the charge for the winners and Sergi Martinez (202-99) chipped in 10 points and 8 rebounds during the contest. The best for the losing side was American center Mike Tobey (213-94, college: Virginia) with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 10 rebounds and French forward Louis Labeyrie (209-92) scored 17 points. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. FC Barcelona (12-6) moved-up to second place, which they share with Real Madrid. Valencia Basket at the other side dropped to the eighth position with eight games lost. FC Barcelona will play against bottom-ranked Khimki (#18) on the road in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Valencia Basket will play against Armani Milano (#7) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
