Regular Season Round 19: CSKA - Zalgiris 83-73

Euroleague top team - Russian CSKA (15-4) managed to deliver another win. This time they beat seventh ranked Lithuanian Zalgiris (11-8) in Moscow 83-73. It ended at the same time the six-game winning streak of Zalgiris. The game was mostly controlled by CSKA. Zalgiris was better in third quarter 20-15. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Zalgiris 43-22 including a 29-15 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a quality performance for American guard Mike James (185-90, college: Lamar) who led the winners and scored 21 points and 5 assists. Georgian forward Tornike Shengelia (206-91, agency: Wasserman) accounted for 18 points and 7 rebounds for the winning side. American guard Thomas Walkup (193-92, college: SF Austin) came up with 14 points and 5 assists and guard Marius Grigonis (198-94) added 16 points respectively for Zalgiris in the defeat. Five CSKA and four Zalgiris players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. CSKA maintains first place with 15-4 record. Defending Lithuanian champion Zalgiris keep the seventh position with eight games lost. CSKA will play against league's second-placed FC Barcelona at home in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Zalgiris will play against Zenit (#5) in Sankt Petersburg and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
