Everything could happen in Athens at the game between two tied teams. Both seventeenth ranked Greek Panathinaikos and 16th ranked French ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket had identical 5-12 record. This time Panathinaikos used a home court advantage and beat the opponent from Villeurbanne 88-71. The game was mostly controlled by Panathinaikos. ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket was better in second period 21-20. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Panathinaikos made 16-of-19 charity shots (84.2 percent) during the game. Panathinaikos outrebounded ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket 38-26 including a 28-17 advantage in defensive rebounds. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Defending Greek champion (6-12) moved-up to fifteenth place, which they share with Crvena Zvezda. ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket lost fourth consecutive game. They dropped to the seventeenth position with 13 games lost. Panathinaikos' next round opponent will be higher ranked Fenerbahce (#11) in Istanbul and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket will play on the road against Olympiacos (#8) in Pireus and hope to win that game.
