Important game to mention about took place in Kaunas. Seventh ranked Lithuanian Zalgiris (12-9) saved a 2-point victory at home edging 8th ranked Greek Olympiacos (11-10) 81-79 on Friday evening. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 26-20. But Olympiacos won second period 24-19. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Zalgiris players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. French center Joffrey Lauvergne (211-91, agency: BeoBasket) stepped up and scored 21 points and 7 rebounds for the winners and American forward Augustine Rubit (203-89, college: USA, agency: Wasserman) chipped in 10 points and 5 rebounds. The best for the losing side was guard Kostas Sloukas (190-90) with 16 points and 6 assists and Cypriot-Bulgarian forward Aleksandar Vezenkov (206-6) scored 11 points and 7 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Defending Lithuanian champion moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Bayern. Olympiacos at the other side keep the eighth position with ten games lost. They share it with 3 other teams. Zalgiris will play against Valencia Basket (#8) on the road in the next round. Olympiacos will play against Armani Milano and hope to get back on the winning track.
