There was a minor upset in Athens where 14th ranked Israeli Maccabi T-A (11-16) was defeated by sixteenth ranked Greek Panathinaikos (10-17) 81-63 on Thursday. The game was mostly controlled by Panathinaikos. Maccabi T-A was better in second period 21-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Panathinaikos dominated down low during the game scoring 46 of its points in the paint compared to Maccabi T-A's 24. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. The best player for the winners was forward Ioannis Papapetrou (203-94, college: Texas) who scored 20 points and 5 rebounds. Italian forward Aaron White (206-92, college: Iowa, agency: BeoBasket) chipped in 15 points and 7 rebounds. Four Panathinaikos players scored in double figures. American-Turkish guard Scottie Wilbekin (188-93, college: Florida, agency: BeoBasket) produced 14 points and Croatian center Ante Zizic (209-97, agency: BeoBasket) added 9 points and 8 rebounds respectively for the guests. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Defending Greek champion maintains sixteenth place with 10-17 record. Defending Israeli champion Maccabi T-A keeps the fourteenth position with 16 games lost. Panathinaikos will face Crvena Zvezda (#17) in Belgrade in the next round.
