Regular Season Round 29: Anadolu Efes - Zalgiris 89-62
Date: March 12, 2021
No shocking result in a game in Istanbul where fifth ranked Turkish Anadolu Efes (18-10) smashed 9th ranked Lithuanian Zalgiris (15-14) 89-62 on Friday. The game was mostly controlled by Anadolu Efes. Zalgiris was better in fourth quarter 14-13. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Anadolu Efes looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. The best player for the winners was Serbian guard Vasilije Micic (196-94, agency: BeoBasket) who scored 17 points and 4 assists. American-Turkish guard Shane Larkin (182-92, college: Miami, FL) chipped in 18 points and 4 steals. Five Anadolu Efes players scored in double figures. American guard Thomas Walkup (193-92, college: SF Austin) produced 15 points and 8 assists and the other American import forward Augustine Rubit (203-89, college: USA, agency: Wasserman) added 13 points and 8 rebounds respectively for the guests. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Anadolu Efes have an impressive series of seven victories in a row. Defending Turkish champion moved-up to third place, which they share with CSKA. Defending Lithuanian champion Zalgiris keep the ninth position with 14 games lost. Anadolu Efes will face Maccabi T-A (#14) in Tel-Aviv in the next round which should be another easy win for them. Zalgiris will play on the road against Fenerbahce (#7) in Istanbul and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
