Regular Season Round 30: Fenerbahce - Zalgiris 84-61
Date: March 18, 2021
Not a big story in a game when 10th ranked Lithuanian Zalgiris (15-15) were outscored by seventh ranked Turkish Fenerbahce (18-12) in Istanbul 84-61 on Thursday. The game without a history. Fenerbahce led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. Fenerbahce outrebounded Zalgiris 38-22 including a 29-15 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a great shooting night for Fenerbahce especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 55.6 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. It was a good game for Czech center Jan Vesely (213-90) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 21 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists (on 9-of-10 shooting from the field). French guard Nando De-Colo (196-87) contributed with 16 points and 6 assists for the winners. Guard Marius Grigonis (198-94) replied with 10 points and 8 assists and American guard Thomas Walkup (193-92, college: SF Austin) added 11 points in the effort for Zalgiris. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Fenerbahce moved-up to sixth place. Zalgiris lost third consecutive game. Defending Lithuanian champion dropped to the eleventh position with 15 games lost. Fenerbahce will face Olympiacos (#12) in Pireus in the next round where they are favorite. Zalgiris will play at home against Maccabi T-A and hope to win that game.
