A very close game took place in Villeurbanne between French ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket and Russian CSKA. Seventh ranked ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket (4-2) got a very close home victory over one of their biggest challengers CSKA (4-2). ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket managed to escape with a 2-point win 70-68 in the game for the fourth place. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of CSKA. CSKA was trailing by 9 points at halftime but managed to get 3-point lead after three quarters before a 17-12 charge of ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket, which allowed them to win the game. ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket outrebounded CSKA 49-32 including 17 on the offensive glass. The best player for the winners was Senegalese-French center Youssoupha Fall (221-95) who had a double-double by scoring 12 points and 10 rebounds. Guard Elie Okobo (191-97) chipped in 14 points. At the other side the best for losing team was American-Italian point guard Daniel Hackett (193-87, college: USC) who recorded 16 points and German power forward Johannes Voigtmann (211-92) added 13 points and 6 rebounds respectively. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. Defending French champion moved-up to fourth place, which they share with 3 other teams including defeated CSKA. ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket will meet Panathinaikos (#13) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. CSKA will play against Monaco (#10) and hope to secure a win.
