There was a small surprise when sixteenth ranked Turkish Efes (3-6) smashed on the road 14th ranked German ALBA Berlin (3-6) 90-63 on Thursday. The guests trailed by 1 point after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 16-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 90-63. Efes made 16-of-19 free shots (84.2 percent) during the game. Efes outrebounded ALBA Berlin 34-23 including 24 on the defensive glass. The best player for the winners was Serbian point guard Vasilije Micic (196-94, agency: BeoBasket) who scored 19 points, 9 assists and 4 steals. Croatian Krunoslav Simon (197-85) chipped in 18 points and 5 rebounds (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line). At the other side the best for losing team was point guard Maodo Lo (191-92, college: Columbia) who recorded 9 points and 5 assists and Brazilian-German Oscar Da Silva (206-98, college: Stanford) added 13 points respectively. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Defending Turkish champion moved-up to twelfth place, which they share with 4 other teams including defeated ALBA Berlin. Efes will meet at home higher ranked Olympiacos (#6) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. ALBA Berlin will play against Zenit (#5) in Sankt Petersburg and hope to secure a win.
