There was a surprise result when fifteenth ranked German ALBA Berlin (4-8) defeated at home higher ranked Israeli Maccabi Tel-Aviv (7-5) 91-86 on Thursday. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Maccabi Tel-Aviv won third quarter 23-20. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. ALBA Berlin shot the lights out from three sinking 15 long-distance shots on high 51.7 percentage. The best player for the winners was Swedish swingman Marcus Eriksson (201-93) who scored 19 points. Point guard Maodo Lo (191-92, college: Columbia) chipped in 11 points and 5 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was American-Turkish guard Scottie Wilbekin (188-93, college: Florida, agency: BeoBasket) who recorded 22 points and 5 assists and Croatian center Ante Zizic (209-97, agency: BeoBasket) added 17 points and 6 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) respectively. Four Maccabi Tel-Aviv players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Defending German champion moved-up to thirteenth place, which they share with Baskonia and Crvena Zvezda. Defending Israeli champion Maccabi Tel-Aviv keeps the sixth position with five games lost. They share it with 3 other teams. ALBA Berlin will meet at home higher ranked Milano (#5) in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Maccabi Tel-Aviv will play against the league's leader Real Madrid where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.
