Rather expected game when 9th ranked French ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket (8-10) lost to seventh ranked Russian CSKA (12-7) in Moscow 83-90. CSKA players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists. ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket was plagued by 27 personal fouls down the stretch. American-Italian point guard Daniel Hackett (193-87, college: USC) stepped up and scored 27 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners and Lithuanian swingman Marius Grigonis (198-94) chipped in 16 points and 4 assists. The best for the losing side was American center James Gist (206-86, college: Maryland, agency: Network Sports International) with 14 points and 8 rebounds and the other American import guard Marcos Knight (188-89, college: MTSU) scored 16 points and 7 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Defending Russian champion moved-up to fifth place.
