Regular Season Round 30: Zalgiris - Olympiacos 73-84
Date: March 15, 2022
Not a big story in a game when 14th ranked Lithuanian Zalgiris (7-18) lost to fourth ranked Greek Olympiacos (17-8) in Kaunas 73-84. Olympiacos players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. Kostas Papanikolaou (204-1990) scored 18 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists to lead the charge for the winners and American center Hassan Martin (201-1995, college: URI) chipped in 13 points and 7 rebounds during the contest. The best for the losing side was American power forward Josh Nebo (206-1997, college: Texas A&M) with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 10 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) and Edgaras Ulanovas (199-1992) scored 13 points and 6 assists. Five Olympiacos and four Zalgiris players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Olympiacos moved-up to third place. Defending Lithuanian champion Zalgiris keep the fourteenth position with 18 games lost. Olympiacos will play against bottom-ranked CSKA (#18) in Moscow in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Zalgiris will play at home against ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket (#13) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
