There was an upset when higher ranked Spanish Baskonia (3-2) was outplayed on the road by thirteenth ranked French ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket (2-3) 87-61 on Friday. ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Baskonia's 26. They outrebounded Baskonia 38-26 including 28 on the defensive glass. Belgian-Nigerian guard Retin Obasohan (189-1993, college: Alabama) stepped up and scored 13 points and 5 assists for the winners and Senegalese-French center Youssoupha Fall (221-1995) chipped in 11 points and 7 rebounds. Four ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket players scored in double figures. Lithuanian swingman Rokas Giedraitis (200-1992) responded with 14 points and 4 assists and American-Ivorian power forward Matt Costello (208-1993, college: Michigan St.) scored 8 points and 6 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Defending French champion moved-up to ninth place, which they share with 6 other teams. Baskonia at the other side keeps the fifth position with two games lost. They share it with 3 other teams. ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket will meet Virtus BO (#15) in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game.
