Very important is a home loss of third ranked Greek Olympiacos (4-2) against fourteenth ranked Spanish Valencia (3-3) on Friday night. Host Olympiacos were edged by Valencia in a tough game in Piraeus 82-83. Valencia forced 20 Olympiacos turnovers. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 24 assists. American-Armenian guard Chris Jones (188-1993, college: Angelo St.) notched 17 points and 7 assists to lead the effort and Montenegrin center Bojan Dubljevic (205-1991, agency: BeoBasket) supported him with 17 points. Even 20 points and 7 assists by Cypriot-Bulgarian forward Aleksandar Vezenkov (206-1995) did not help to save the game for Olympiacos. Forward Kostas Papanikolaou (204-1990) added 9 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Four Olympiacos players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Valencia moved-up to seventh place, which they share with 6 other teams. Defending Greek champion Olympiacos keep the third position with two games lost. They share it with 3 other teams. Valencia will play against league's second-placed Monaco at home in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Olympiacos will play against Partizan and hope to get back on the winning track.
