Everything went according to plan when seventh ranked Lithuanian Zalgiris (5-3) defeated 11th ranked Italian Milano (3-5) in Kaunas 71-62 on Friday. Zalgiris made 20-of-23 free shots (87.0 percent) during the game. The winners were led by American guard Keenan Evans (191-1996, college: Texas Tech) who scored that evening 23 points and Latvian Rolands Smits (207-1995) supported him with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Even 19 points by Greek-Canadian point guard Nazareth Mitrou-Long (193-1993, college: Iowa St., agency: BeoBasket) did not help to save the game for Milano. American swingman Devon Hall (196-1995, college: Virginia, agency: Octagon Europe) added 8 points for the guests. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Zalgiris have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Real Madrid and Barca. Milano lost fourth consecutive game. Defending Italian champion dropped to the twelfth position with five games lost. They share it with 3 other teams. Zalgiris will meet Baskonia (#7) in the next round. Milano will play against Efes (#12) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
