The most exciting game of round 9 in the Euroleague took place in Monaco. This derby game ended with only three-point home defeat of second-best French Monaco (6-3) to first ranked Turkish Fenerbahce (8-1) 96-93 in the game for the first place. Fenerbahce made 17-of-22 free shots (77.3 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. American forward Nigel Hayes-Davis (203-1994, college: Wisconsin) stepped up and scored 21 points and 5 rebounds for the winners and Greek-American point guard Nick Calathes (196-1989, college: Florida) chipped in 15 points and 7 assists. The best for the losing side was American swingman Jordan Loyd (193-1993, college: Indianapolis) with 18 points and 5 rebounds and the other American import guard Mike James (185-1990, college: Lamar) scored 17 points and 5 assists. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Monaco's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Fenerbahce have a solid series of three victories in a row. Defending Turkish champion maintains first place with 8-1 record. Monaco at the other side keeps the second position with three games lost. They share it with 3 other teams. Fenerbahce are looking forward to face Milano (#17) on the road in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Monaco will play against Bayern Muenchen (#15) and is hoping to prove to their supporters that this time they can win.
