The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Spanish Barca as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Barca defeated 11th ranked Greek Panathinaikos in Barcelona 74-68. Barca shot the lights out from three sinking 13 long-distance shots on high 56.5 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Czech point guard Tomas Satoransky (201-1991, agency: Octagon Europe) orchestrated the victory by scoring 13 points and 6 assists. Czech center Jan Vesely (213-1990, agency: BeoBasket) contributed with 15 points for the winners. Four Barca players scored in double figures. American Dwayne Bacon (201-1995, college: FSU) replied with 19 points and 5 rebounds and center Georgios Papagiannis (220-1997) added 13 points and 9 rebounds in the effort for Panathinaikos. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. As mentioned above they are at the top of the standings, which they share with Fenerbahce and Monaco. Panathinaikos at the other side keep the eleventh place with eight games lost. They share the position with 3 other teams. Panathinaikos will play next round against Efes trying to get back on the winning streak. Barca will try to continue on its current victory against fourteenth ranked Valencia on the road.
