There was a surprise result when sixteenth ranked French ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket (8-13) defeated at home 3rd placed Turkish Fenerbahce (13-8) 91-77 on Thursday. ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket made 16-of-20 free shots (80.0 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. The best player for the winners was guard Nando De Colo (196-1987) who scored 26 points and 5 assists. Bulgarian-American point guard Dee Bost (188-1989, college: MSU) chipped in 15 points and 9 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was American guard Carsen Edwards (185-1998, college: Purdue) who recorded 22 points and the other American import forward Nigel Hayes-Davis (203-1994, college: Wisconsin) added 12 points and 5 rebounds respectively. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Defending French champion moved-up to fifteenth place, which they share with Panathinaikos. Defending Turkish champion Fenerbahce keeps the third position with eight games lost. They share it with Barca and Monaco. ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket will meet higher ranked Partizan (#11) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Fenerbahce will play against the league's leader Olympiacos (#1) where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.
