Regular Season Round 21: Panathinaikos - Zalgiris 89-65

There was an upset in Athens where higher ranked Lithuanian Zalgiris (12-9) were rolled over by fifteenth ranked Greek Panathinaikos (8-13) 89-65 on Thursday. Panathinaikos forced 19 Zalgiris turnovers. Strangely Zalgiris outrebounded Panathinaikos 35-23 including 21 on the defensive glass. It was a great shooting night for Panathinaikos especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 52.6 percentage. The best player for the winners was American-Cameroonian guard Paris Lee (183-1995, college: Illinois St.) who scored 24 points and 4 assists. American Dwayne Bacon (201-1995, college: FSU) chipped in 13 points and 5 rebounds. Four Panathinaikos players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was Edgaras Ulanovas (199-1992) who recorded 7 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists and Latvian Rolands Smits (207-1995) added 11 points and 5 rebounds respectively. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Panathinaikos maintains fifteenth place with 8-13 record, which they share with ASVEL. Loser Zalgiris keep the sixth position with nine games lost. They share it with Baskonia. Panathinaikos will meet league's second-placed Real Madrid on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Zalgiris will play against Efes (#10) in Istanbul and hope to secure a win.
