Regular Season Round 21: Baskonia - Anadolu Efes 114-111

There was no surprise in Vitoria where 10th ranked Turkish Efes (10-11) were edged by seventh ranked Spanish Baskonia (12-9) 114-111 on Friday. Baskonia made 22-of-28 free shots (78.6 percent) during the game. Baskonia outrebounded Efes 46-29 including a 17-5 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 31 assists comparing to just 16 passes made by Efes' players. The best player for the winners was American guard Darius Thompson (193-1995, college: WKU) who had a double-double by scoring 19 points, 6 rebounds and 16 assists. American-Ivorian power forward Matt Costello (208-1993, college: Michigan St.) chipped in 33 points (!!!) and 5 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was American-Turkish guard Shane Larkin (182-1992, college: Miami, FL) who recorded 21 points and 6 assists and Serbian point guard Vasilije Micic (196-1994, agency: BeoBasket) added 19 points and 5 rebounds respectively. Four Baskonia and five Efes players scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. Baskonia moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Zalgiris. Loser Efes keep the tenth position with 11 games lost. They share it with Partizan and Crvena Zvezda. Baskonia will meet Milano (#17) on the road in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Efes will play against Zalgiris (#7) and hope to secure a win.
