The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Greek Olympiacos as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Olympiacos defeated 8th ranked Israeli Maccabi Tel-Aviv in Piraeus 95-89. Olympiacos looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. 28 personal fouls committed by Maccabi Tel-Aviv helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Cypriot-Bulgarian forward Aleksandar Vezenkov (206-1995) stepped up and scored 23 points and 9 rebounds for the winners and American guard Thomas Walkup (193-1992, college: SF Austin) chipped in 9 points and 12 assists. The best for the losing side was power forward Roman Sorkin (208-1996, college: Oregon) with 23 points and 9 rebounds (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field) and American Bonzie Colson Jr (198-1996, college: Notre Dame, agency: Octagon Europe) produced a double-double by scoring 13 points and 11 rebounds. Five Maccabi Tel-Aviv players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Olympiacos have a solid series of three victories in a row. As mentioned above they are at the top of the standings, which they share with Real Madrid. Maccabi Tel-Aviv at the other side keeps the eighth place with ten games lost. They share the position with Valencia. Maccabi Tel-Aviv will play next round against strong Barca trying to get back on the winning streak. Olympiacos will try to continue on its current victory against fourth ranked Fenerbahce in Istanbul.
