Regular Season Round 27: Real Madrid - Baskonia 81-85

Leading Real Madrid (18-8) recorded its eighth loss at the home court. Hosts were defeated by seventh ranked Baskonia (15-12) 85-81. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Real Madrid. It was an exceptional evening for American guard Darius Thompson (193-1995, college: WKU) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 18 points, 5 rebounds and 14 assists. American-Ivorian power forward Matt Costello (208-1993, college: Michigan St.) accounted for 20 points for the winning side. Four Baskonia players scored in double figures. Bosnian swingman Dzanan Musa (205-1999, agency: BeoBasket) came up with 21 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists and Cape Verdean-Spanish center Walter Tavares (220-1992) added 13 points and 5 rebounds respectively for Real Madrid in the defeat. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Baskonia moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Partizan. Defending Spanish champion Real Madrid dropped to the second position with eight games lost. Baskonia will play against higher ranked Monaco (#4) at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Real Madrid will play against Valencia and hopes to get back on the winning track.
