Regular Season Round 30: Milano - Bayern 99-74
Date: March 24, 2023
There was no surprise when 15th ranked German Bayern Muenchen (11-19) was outplayed on the road by twelfth ranked Italian Milano (14-16) 99-74 on Friday. Milano shot 63.5 percent from the field. Milano outrebounded Bayern Muenchen 34-22 including a 28-12 advantage in defensive rebounds. They shot the lights out from three sinking 12 long-distance shots on high 63.2 percentage. The best player for the winners was Puerto Rican-American point guard Shabazz Napier (185-1991, college: UConn) who scored 20 points and 4 assists. Power forward Nicolo Melli (205-1991) chipped in 8 points and 6 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was Andreas Obst (191-1996, agency: BeoBasket) who recorded 27 points and American forward Zylan Cheatham (203-1995, college: Arizona St.) added 17 points respectively. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Defending Italian champion moved-up to tenth place, which they share with Anadolu Efes and Valencia. Bayern Muenchen lost third consecutive game. They keep the fifteenth position with 19 games lost. Milano will meet Efes (#10) in the next round. Bayern Muenchen will play against Panathinaikos (#16) in Athens and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
